I’d lived at St Pierre for more than fifteen years before I saw Mas-Cabardès from this viewpoint. All the houses whose fronts line up right against the road open up behind to the river. They’re private most of the year when summer’s growth obscures terraces and barbeques. But in winter all is revealed to the painter’s eye.
